How To Make Apple Butter

Ingredients:

6 lbs mixed apples, such as granny smith, gala, honey crisp, fuji, peeled, cored and sliced
1 ½ cups sugar
1 ½ cups brown sugar
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp ground nutmeg
½ tsp ground cloves
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp vanilla extract

Directions:

Put the all the ingredients in a slow cooker and stir to combine. Cook on low for 10 hours or until the mixture is thickened and dark brown. Stir in the vanilla and cook another 2 hours.

Puree the mixture either with a food processor or an immersion blender until smooth and cool.

Transfer the apple butter to airtight containers and either store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to a year
