This week’s installment of kid friendly summer snack ideas is a fun one for everyone! Peanut butter apple wheels are the perfect mid afternoon pick me up. They are fun to make and fun to eat! These are thick slices of crisp sweet pink lady apples that I have spread with creamy, natural peanut butter and topped with your choice of toppings. I choose to top some with granola that was filled with whole oats, dates, raisins and sunflower seeds and some with chocolate chips! You can top your with just about anything you like! Kids will get excited about eating a fruit snack that is all natural when they see how much fun it can be to make their own! This encourages good nutrition for life as well as getting them to love natural treats on a regular basis.

This snack is a great “go-to” because almost all moms have apples and peanut butter on hand. My girls loved apple slices with peanut butter that was slightly warmed in the microwave to make it a dip. To this day, Molly still does this and uses it in all sorts of delicious things. If you prefer, you can always choose to use a nut butter such as almond, cashew or sunflower or even light cream cheese or Greek yogurt spread would be a great option too and don’t forget chocolate hazelnut spread! That would be amazing as well!

You can use whatever you like to top your slices. Your favorite cereal, raisins, cranberries or other dried fruit, toasted coconut, chopped peanuts or pecans, drizzle them with honey or chocolate sauce or even give them a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder on top for a real change. Everyone is going to love this snack!

You can even pack this in a lunch as a “build-able” snack! Give all the components and let them go to town. All their friends will be jealous!

I hope that the next time your kids yell “Mom! I’m hungry” you will give these peanut butter apple wheels a try! I hope you and your kids love them!

Happy Eating!
