While the Pina Colada was most definitely invented in Puerto Rico, the first person to invent it is up for debate. That's how you know you have a drink for the ages. The Pina Colada was one of the first drinks created when cream of coconut was first available in the 1950s, and also contains pineapple juice, rum, crushed ice, fresh pineapple and maraschino cherries.
The Pina Colada was immortalized in the 1979 song "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)", also the last #1 song of the 1970s. I remember hearing that song all the time on AM radio when I was a kid.
