This uppu kozhukattai / Kara Kozhukattai can be served as evening snack / tea time snack. This healthy snack recipe is quick to make and it turns out to be very soft and tasty. Enjoy making this simple snack!

Ingredients

Rice flour – 1 Cup
Grated Coconut – 2 Tablespoons
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 Tablespoon
Urad Dhal – 1/2 Teaspoon
Channa Dhal – 1 Teaspoon
Red Chillies – 2 Nos
Curry Leaves – A Sprig
Asafoetida – A Pinch
Salt – To Taste
Oil – 1 Tablespoon

Method

Measure one cup of rice flour and add it to a bowl.
Add required salt and mix well.
Add boiling water little by little to the flour and start mixing it using a laddle.
Knead the flour in to a soft dough.
In a pan, add oil for tempering. When it is hot, add mustard seeds, urad dhal, channa dhal,Curry leaves, red chillies and asafoetida.
Add the tempering to the dough.
Add grated coconut and knead it again.
Grease the idly plate with few drops of oil. Take a small piece of dough and roll into round shape. Place them on the idly plate. Meanwhile heat some water in a idly pot.
Place the idly plate , cover the pot and cook it in medium flame for 5 – 7 minutes.
Soft and tasty kozhukattai is ready to serve.
