Paniyaram is a delicious chetinad recipe which is apt for breakfast and evening snack. It is a byte sized food which is very popular in Tamil Nadu. The dish is prepared with rice and urad dal by preparing a batter. The taste of the dish is enhanced by adding sauted shallots(sambar onions), black pepper and curry leaves. Paniyaram is basically of two types, sweet and spicy. The sweeter version of it requires the addition of sugar/jaggery instead of onions, pepper and curry leaves. The Kara Paniyaram is preferred by majority of south Indians and it tastes well with Mint Chutney or onion tomato chutney.
